I did drawing this one months ago for a contest on Cartoon Amino (I'm not sure who won though since I didn't get any updates about it).
As you can't tell, these are gensonas (Steven Universe phrase) that I made. These two characters are both male gems (it could happen, since Steven proves it could), and they are siblings, twins to be more precise.
Alabaster (on the Left) & Onyx's (Right) personalities are based off of the Yin-Yang symbol halves, with Alabaster being the more aggressive fighter type, while Onyx is the peaceful pacifist.
And just like the famous symbol, the twins actually have each other's gems on their eyes (Alabaster having an onyx, and Onyx having an alabaster). It helps the twins be alert of each other's whereabouts when ever they are separated or in danger;
So whenever Alabaster is losing his temper on dangerous levels, Onyx calms him down telepathically with the onyx eye. Same thing with Alabaster making Onyx fight with the same telepathic powers.
Unlike the Crystal Gems, how these two fuse together is basically just run towards each other & jump in the air to do a double cartwheel until the fusion is completed.
*I always find the Gems fusioning together with by dancing suggestively to be rather disturbing & awkward, to be honest here

Also unlike the Crystal Gems, the twins fuse into animals rather than giant women (sorry Steven), and their signature fusion is a giant jewel panda appropriately named "Pandadite" (after the case/mutation of crystal gems & rocks being formed/attach to each other). So when they fuse with the Crystal gems, their forms would be animals too.

I love it what's their backstory?
I could see that. the rare male gems form into more animal-like beings and occasionally have "human-like" features while the traditional form for a gem is a giant woman/person
I always wondered if there's a possibility of gems having sibs or something close as a sib; like the rutilite twins or if a gem gets split in half, but instead of being destroyed it creates a new gem.
I heard from an interview that while gems usually use female prnouns they can start referring to themselves as males after being reformed if they chose to; plus some of gems in the cluster sounded male so I hope one day the group comes across a gem that uses he pronouns (cause frankly some of the gems we've seen; they look too much like guys for me to call a girl; one of the topazes and the ruby squad leader seem like possible male pronouns and probably even one of the amythests/jaspers at the zoo)
