That's the only problem with these fandoms, is that people instantly label fan-characters as Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus too much
Fan character paired up with canon character= Mary-Sue
Fan-charcter getting lots of love from creator (fanart and fanfics)= Mary-Sue
Fan-character based on one-self= Mary-Sue
Characxters with beautiful names = Mary-Sue
Characters that have the same hair-style = Mary-Sue
Characters that are damsel in distress = Mary-Sue
Even just by looking at them they just say "Mary-Sue."
To me, there is no such thing a "Mary-Sue," there's only use-less characters, fanon characters, fan-characters, and cliche characters.
The only female fan-characters that I'm sick of are the ones that based on the Femme-Fatale cliche or stereotypes.
The next time, people should read and learn about the characters before labeling them negatively.
Or if they just hate the characters by their looks, just ignore them and don't spread any hate.
As for the hair-issue, again hair-styles aren't a major deal to call a character a "Mary-Sue."
A hair-style is just a hair-style, and it's just one of those representations that the signature artist drew them.
